The two most backward groups in Indian society have been classified as Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) which includes people belonging to socially, economically, and educationally inferior castes, races, and tribes. The cell was established to support and help integrate students from these groups into the mainstream. To empower the SC/ST students enrolled in the college, the SC/ST cell was formed.
