The Department of Computer Application was established in the year 2012 to meet the demand for well- qualified computer professionals. The department offers a 3 year degree program, Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA), affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University Kottayam. BCA has a team of efficient, experienced and dedicated faculty members who work for the academic and interpersonal skill development of the students. The overall development of students is ensured by the department through various orientation programmes, value added courses, seminar and add-on courses. The objective of the course is to mold eminent professionals with creative minds who are academically strong and competent enough to achieve their dreams.
The Computer Lab has advanced infrastructure in terms of hardware and software which meets the requirements of teachers, students and curriculum. Alumni of the BCA Department have got placed in many of the top most companies such as IBM, Wipro, TCS etc and some are working abroad pursuing their higher studies.
PO 1 – Understand, analyse and develop computer programs in the areas related to algorithm, web design and networking for efficient design of computer based systems.
PO 2 – To be a foundation graduate programme which will act as a feeder course for higher studies in the area of Computer Science/Applications.
PO 3 – To develop skills in software development so as to enable the BCA graduates to take up self-employment in the Indian & global market.
PO 4 – Work in the IT sector as a system engineer, software tester, junior programmer, web developer, system administrator, software developer etc.
PO 5 – Apply standard software engineering practices and strategies in software project development using open source programming environment to deliver a quality of product for business success.
The eligibility for admission to BCA Degree Programme under the Mahatma Gandhi University requires the completion of Pre-degree, Plus Two or equivalent examinations in science stream with Mathematics/Computer Science as a compulsory subject.
The UG programme in Computer Applications and Science includes Common courses, Core courses, Complementary courses, Open courses, Seminar, Project and viva voce. No course shall carry more than four credits. The student shall select any one open course in semester V offered by various departments of the College.
