Admission Procedure

Admission Procedure

Merit admission shall be through a centralized allotment process (CAP) as per the MG University rules and regulations. Updated details about CAP and online registration can be done through www.mgu.ac.in

Prospectus and application form for admission under the management quota may be submitted in the prescribed form which can be had from the college office on payment of Rs. 100/- in cash (in person) or Rs. 175 by demand draft drawn in favour of Principal, Cochin Arts and Science college, Makkakadavu, Pallikkara, Ernakulam, Kerala, 683565. Payment Once Made will not be refunded. The selected candidates should report to the principal with his or her guardian at the date and time fixed before the interview along with the following documents.

Documents required for admission

(Applicable for both Merit and Management)

  1. Interview card /allotment memo
  2. Qualifying certificate
  3. Recent passport size photograph (4 Nos)
  4. Transfer certificate and conduct certificate
  5. Migration certificate (for other University candidates)
  6. Eligibility criteria if applicable

Class Hours

  • It is mandatory to wear the college identity card on campus.
  • ID tag is a public document and the card should be shown to the staff or college officials when asked especially during examination, during formal program, in the administrative office and Library.
  • The loss of ID card should be reported to the principal at the earliest.

Attendance and Leave

  • Students are expected to attend classes every day.
  • However, if there are genuine reasons like health issues students can avail themselves leave after obtaining permission from the class teachers.
  • The student should come to class in time before their attendance is taken.
  • The latecomers should not allow entering the class without the permission of the teacher in charge.
  • The MG University has mandated a minimum of 75 % attendance to write the end semester examination. The college will strictly follow the rules demanded by the University.
  • The attendance shall be marked at the beginning of each class by the teacher in charge of the class.
  • At the end of each semester, a list will be put upon the general notice boards showing the number of days of attendance gained by each student.
  • A student requiring leave for an hour for valid reasons may apply to the teacher in charge before the class begins.
  • The reason for each day’s absence will have to be explained and in the case of absence due to illness, a medical certificate also will have to be submitted especially if one is absent for more than 5 working days at a stretch.
  • The name of the student will be removed from the rolls if he/ she is absent continuously for more than 10 days without leave. They may be readmitted at the discretion of the principal.

  • Signature of the student with date
  • Signature of the parent
  • Recommendation of the Teacher in charge
  • Order of the principal

Condonation for Shortage of Attendance

  • Students whose attendance falls below the minimum shall have to apply for condonation.
  • Condonation will be granted only on medical grounds.
  • In case of illness, the application should be supported by a proper medical certificate.
  • The medical certificate should be submitted either at the time of the treatment or immediately after the treatment

Guidelines and Rules of Conduct

  • Class hours are from 9.00 a.m. to 1.45 p.m. Be in time for classes.
  • Maintain a calm atmosphere on the campus especially during working hours.
  • Show respect to your elders and teachers.
  • Uniform is compulsory for all students. The student should be simple, neat and tidy in the dress.
  • Seek permission from the teacher before entering or leaving a class in session.
  • If classes are free during any period, engage yourself in meaningful co-curricular activities
  • Every student of Cochin arts and science college is bound to abide by the rules and regulations framed by the college authorities for a peaceful atmosphere.
  • Tobacco, chewing gums, alcohol is strictly banned on the campus. Students are liable to disciplinary action if found smoking in and around the campus.
  • Do not disfigure the college furniture, doors or windows with drawings. Every student shall handle with care the college property and shall co-operate in preserving the cleanliness and tidiness of buildings and furniture.
  • For using Megaphone, loudspeakers, banners or posters inside the campus, written permission from principal is compulsory.
  • Outsiders are not permitted to attend college function without the permission of the principal.
  • The use of the mobile phones by students has strictly prohibited inside the college building as per government order.
  • Excursion will be allowed only once in a course of study and preferably in the final year.
  • The principal shall be the final authority in the interpretation of the college rules. Matters not covered by the existing rule will be left to the discretion of the principal and his decision will be final.
  • Students are not allowed to engage in any politically motivated activities within the campus such as organizing meeting, processions, shouting slogans, pasting of notices, etc which have been forbidden by law and college regulations.
  • Addressing any gathering on the campus or students in the class can be done only with the permission of the principal.
  • Insubordination, habitual inattention, neglect of work, unbecoming language or conduct and obscenity in word or deed render a student liable to temporary or permanent dismissal.
